THE TASK: Westeel needed to recruit Welders and Painters for their Regina, Saskatoon, Tisdale, and Olds plant in Saskatchewan, Canada. Our client wanted to attract candidates outside the province of Saskatchewan. The challenge my client had was not only finding experienced candidates in these trade positions, but also competing against the energy industry that was prominent in other regions.
THE SOLUTION: After consulting with my clients, I planned and managed their recruitment campaign were we would target the Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario region to attract experienced candidates in the welding and painting trade position. Our first step was to develop a recruitment strategy in which my design team created five attention-grabbing recruitment advertisements that would enhance Westeel’s brand and attract the right candidates. We then proceeded to work with our client in developing an inspired tag-line that would speak volumes about their business and career opportunities. Understanding who our client’s competition was in these underlying regions, I suggested that a value proposition be added to not only entice candidates to apply, but to make the career transition more appealing. In addition, we focused more on the value proposition rather job description to drive candidates to my client’s career website to apply for the position and which also brought more awareness to other Westeel job opportunities.
THE RESULT: After the campaign was launched and completed, my client reported they had received over 260 candidates who applied for the positions and they noted an increase in web traffic to their website where it tripled during the recruitment campaign.
